I once walked 50 kilometers in a day, starting from Noborito in Kanagawa through Tokyo to Saitama and finally to Funabashi in Chiba!

I once cycled 110 kilometers in a day from Tokyo to Maebashi in Gunma. I had to take the Shinkansen back because I was so tired that I couldn’t ride a bike anymore.

What do you think is special about GnoKids compared to other kids English schools?
What makes Gnokids special is that there are two native-level teachers in the classroom, which allows kids to hear different accents and ways to speak English from all around the world. I think what happens a lot with people that are not exposed to native English conversations is that they understand classroom English very well but struggle as soon as they are exposed to English used outside of the classroom. Having two teachers that communicate with the students and with each other constantly really helps in developing the kids’ listening abilities and I think that is what sets apart Gnokids. I am always amazed by how well our students understand even casual English.
What is most important to you when teaching children?
What is most important to me when teaching children is finding the right balance between fun and learning. I am always trying to come up with fun, new ways to keep the students engaged and allow them to absorb as much English as possible at the same time. I also think it’s important to focus on each students’ strengths individually. The relatively small number of students in the classroom allows me to give everyone the attention they need.
What do you think has helped your students improve the most?
I think what helped my students the most is making phonics more engaging. I draw them silly pictures every week which keeps them engaged and focused on the phonics. I think phonics is the most important part of the lesson, so making sure that the kids enjoy phonics and have fun while reading words is what helps them improve the most.
If you had an extra hour in the day what would you do?1日が25時間だったら、その1時間で何をしますか?
I would draw for an hour longer and have longer conversations with my friends in the lounge.
Where are your favorite places in Japan?
My favorite place in Tokyo is Shimokitazawa. I love the alternative culture and fashion there and I think the people there are really interesting and cool.
What’s your favourite children’s book?
My favorite children’s book is called ‘The penguin that hated the cold’. It’s about a penguin that wants to escape from the cold of Antarctica and live on a tropical island. He builds a boat with different things he finds in his house and eventually makes it out of Antarctica.
What do you miss most about Germany?
The things I miss the most about Germany are Kebabs. Kebabs in Japan taste completely different from the ones in Germany and I really miss eating Kebabs with crispy bread, filled with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and garlic sauce
