☆カフェでクリスマスパーティ☆
At the beginning of this month, we had a very special Christmas party at Tag Cafe in Shimokitazawa. It was our first time having an event in a café, and we had so much fun! We were really excited that students from all 5 schools participated! It was a nice opportunity for students and parents to mingle with GnoKids students from other schools.
今月の始めに、グノキッズではとってもスペシャルなクリスマスパーティーを下北沢のTag Caféというお店で行いました。グノキッズ初のカフェで行うレッスンでしたが、とっても楽しかったです！何よりも、5校舎全部から参加いただけて、とっても嬉しかったです！他校舎の生徒のみんなや、保護者の皆様と交流ができた良い機会になりました。
We started off the party with a game of Christmas musical statues. In this game, we all dance to the Christmas music until…the music stops! When the music stops, everyone has to FREEZE like a statue! The teachers keep an eye out to see if anyone isn’t frozen when the music stops! If we see someone move, they get to join the teachers and help catch the next person! Everyone had lots of fun dancing and playing this game.
まず、「Christmas musical statues」というゲームでスタートしました。このゲームではクリスマスミュージックにあわせて踊って、音楽が止まると、みんなは銅像のように固まらなくてはいけません！先生は、音楽が止まった時に誰かじっとしていない生徒がいないかをじーっと見張っていました。もし、誰かが動くのを見たら、その動いた生徒は、次に音楽が止まった時に先生と一緒に動いた生徒を捕まえることができます！全員が踊って、とっても楽しくゲームをすることができました。
After this game, everyone was thirsty from all the dancing, so we ordered some drinks! Everyone asked for a menu and then ordered their drinks in English! We had some new words that we haven’t studied before, like “grape juice,” “ginger ale,” and jasmine tea” but everyone did a great job ordering, even with these new words!
このゲームの後、みんなは踊って、のどが渇いてしまったのでドリンクをオーダーしました！1人1人が英語のメニューをもらって、ドリンクをオーダーしました！いくつか今までに習った事のない新しい単語が載っていましたが、（例えば、“grape juice,” “ginger ale,” and jasmine tea”など）、みんなとっても上手にオーダーする事ができました！
It took Sarah and Lisa some time to get used to being servers (sorry everyone :p) and once we got everyone’s orders in, we played some Christmas party games, like Pass the Parcel. Pass the Present is a classic Western Christmas game. There is a present wrapped up in many layers of wrapping paper. We play some Christmas music and pass the present around with our friends. Then, suddenly, the music stops! Whoever is holding the present when the music stops gets to unwrap one layer of the present! Sometimes, there was a prize inside…but sometimes there was nothing at all! We cheered our friends on as they opened the present and received a prize. Some of the prizes included candy canes, special Christmas chocolates, and Christmas pencils!
セーラ先生とリサ先生はウェイトレスの仕事に慣れるのに少し時間がかかりましたが、（みんなごめんね！）オーダーを取り終わった後すぐに、みんなで一緒に「Pass the Parcel」などの、クリスマスのパーティーゲームをしました。「Pass the Parcel」は欧米の昔からあるクリスマスゲームです。ラッピングペーパーで何重にも包んであるプレゼントが1つあります。クリスマスミュージックを流して、そのプレゼントをお友達に次々にまわします。すると、突然ミュージックが止まります！ミュージックが止まった時にプレゼントを持っている人が、1枚だけラッピングペーパーをはがすことができます。ある時はプレゼントが中に入っているし、またある時は中身が空っぽの場合もあります！お友達がプレゼントを開ける時や、受け取る時に声援をあげて楽しみました。プレゼントには、キャンディーケーンや、クリスマスの特別なチョコレート、そして、クリスマスの鉛筆がありました！
After playing some games, many of the students started telling us, “I’m hungry!”, so we knew that it was time to eat. Everyone did a fantastic job ordering their food in English, and many of the students even ordered for mom and dad. We heard many students using phrases like, “Excuse me,” or “Can I go to the bathroom?” We were also really impressed that students raised their hands and told us when they needed something, such as, “Can I have chopsticks, please?” or “Can I have more, please?” It was just like at a Western café. We didn’t hear anyone use any Japanese at all, which was amazing!!! Well done, everyone!
いくつかのゲームで遊んだ後、たくさんの生徒が「I’m hungry!」と言ってくれたので、ご飯を食べる時間になりました。全員が食べ物を英語でオーダーすることを本当に上手にしてくれ、たくさんの生徒がお父さんとお母さんの分もオーダーしてくれました。また、たくさんの生徒が「Excuse me,」 や、 「Can I go to the bathroom?」等のフレーズを使ってくれているのを聞きました。生徒が何か用がある時、自ら手を上げて「Can I have chopsticks, please?”」や、おかわりがしたい時は、「 Can I have more, please?」などと言ってくれている姿は本当に感動しました。その光景は本当に欧米のカフェに居るようでした。日本語を使っている生徒は誰も居なかったので、本当に素晴らしかったです！！みなさん本当に良くできました！
After eating, we made a special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer snack. Students had to use English to ask for items each step of the way. We had to ask for a plate, a cracker, chocolate sauce, antlers (that was a pretty hard vocabulary word to pronounce but everyone did well!), eyes, and finally, a nose! Students chose different colored noses to finish their reindeer snack! We had a lot of Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeers, but also some Blue-Nosed and Green-Nosed Reindeers too. All of them were very cute. In fact, they were so cute that we almost didn’t want to eat them (but of course we did, and they were delicious!)
食事の後は、特別な赤鼻のトナカイのスナックを作りました。生徒はそれぞれの工程の中で英語で聞いて、アイテムをもらわないといけませんでした。もらわなくてはいけないアイテムは、クラッカー、チョコレートソース、シカの角（これはとっても発音するのが難しい単語でしたが、上手に言ってくれました！）、目、そして最後に、お鼻です！生徒は仕上げにそれぞれ違う色の鼻を選びました！赤鼻のトナカイがたくさん出来上がっていましたが、中には青いお鼻や、緑のお鼻のトナカイもいました。トナカイはみんなとってもかわいかったです。かわいすぎてみんな食べたくないという程でした。（でも、もちろん食べました♪とっても美味しかったです！）。
Finally, we sang a special Christmas version of the Hokey Pokey called The Reindeer Pokey or we read one of Sarah’s favorite Christmas books, Stick Man. Both were lots of fun. And at the very end of the party, we watched a special Christmas video and we got a special message from SANTA CLAUS himself!!! Wow! Santa told us that he had delivered some presents for us. so at the end of the party, everyone got a fantastic gift from Santa!
最後に、みんなでクリスマス特別バージョンの「Hokey Pokey」の歌「The Reindeer Pokey」を歌って、その後、みんなで、セーラ先生のお気に入りの本の「Stick Man」を読みました。どちらもとっても楽しかったです。そして、パーティーの最後の最後にクリスマスのスペシャルビデオをみんなで見て、サンタクロースからスペシャルメッセージをもらいました！「Wow!」 サンタさんは、プレゼントを私達に届けてくれたと言っていました。サンタさんからの素敵なプレゼントをもらい、グノカフェクリスマスパーティーを締めくくりました！
Thank you again for coming out to our very first GnoCafe Christmas Party! We really appreciate all of you taking the time to come out! We hope to have more events like this in the future, so we hope those of you who joined us this time can join us again and that we see lots of new faces next time, too!
