Project 1 “After talk”

Project 1 this year is all about shopping. We cover vocabulary and important grammar rules to communicate what we’re shopping for, as well as useful and polite phrases to use in shopping scenarios.
今年のプロジェクト第1弾のテーマは「お買い物」です！買い物で欲しいものを伝えるための単語や大切な文法はもちろん、実際のお店で使える便利で丁寧なフレーズもたくさん学んでいきます。お子さんが実際のシーンで自信を持って英語を使えるよう、楽しく進めてまいります。

At the heart of shopping is money. We have to know how much we have, and how much things cost before we can decide what to buy. This lesson we practiced larger numbers than many students had been familiar with in English up until now. Eagles did numbers all the way to 1 million!
We also played a series of games where students had to ask for, give and even guess the prices of various items in dollars by saying “How much are they?” and answering “It’s 750,200 dollars.”

お買い物に欠かせないのが「お金」のトピックです。何を買うか決めるには、手持ちの金額や商品の値段を正しく知っておく必要がありますよね。今回のレッスンでは、多くの生徒さんにとって今まで英語では馴染みの薄かった「大きな数字」を練習しました。Eaglesクラス（※クラス名）の皆さんは、なんと100万までの数字に挑戦しました！また、いろいろな商品の値段を “How much are they?”（それらはいくらですか？）と尋ねたり、”It’s 750,200 dollars.”（75万200ドルです）と答えたりするゲームも行いました。値段を予想し合うなど、大きな数字を使いながら楽しく盛り上がりました。100万単位の大きな数字を使いこなすのは大変ですが、みんな一生懸命取り組んでいます。

This lesson we learned how to take stock of what’s available in a shop. We focused heavily on the linguistic differences between singular and plural items. This can be difficult because it’s often left unclear in Japanese, but very explicit in English. Eagles also learned about using “some” and the tricky uncountable nouns.
This one is easy to practice at home, at the shops, at the park or pretty much anywhere. Try asking “What is there here?” and see how many items your child can list using “There is a…” for single items and “There are…” for multiples.

今回のレッスンでは、お店にどんなものがあるかをチェックする方法を学びました。特に力を入れたのが、「単数（1つ）」と「複数（2つ以上）」による言葉の違いです。日本語ではあまり区別しない部分なので難しく感じることもありますが、英語ではとてもはっきりと使い分けるポイントです。さらにEaglesクラスでは、「some」の使い方や、数えられない名詞（不可算名詞）という少し複雑なルールについても学習しました。これはご家庭やスーパー、公園など、どこでも手軽に練習できます。ぜひお子さんに “What is there here?”（ここには何があるかな？）と聞いてみてください。1つなら “There is a…”、複数なら “There are…” を使って、いくつ見つけられるか一緒に数えてみるのも楽しいですよ。

This lesson was about the interaction between the shop employee and customer. The employee politely asks “What would you like?” and the costumer responds by stating what they want. Eagles learned more polite ways to ask, and practiced using the verb “try” in different ways.
Various games gave students lots of opportunities to practice both sides of this role-play scenario. We also had short individual mini-phonics lessons with each student, so teachers could check in one on one to see how everyone is doing with their phonics homework and understanding so far.

今回のレッスンでは、店員さんとお客さんのやり取りを練習しました。店員さんが丁寧に “What would you like?”（何になさいますか？）と尋ね、お客さんが自分の欲しいものを伝えるという流れです。Eaglesクラスでは、より丁寧な頼み方や、いろいろな場面での “try”（試着する、試してみるなど）の使い方についても学びました。さまざまなゲームを通じたロールプレイで、店員さんとお客さんの両方の立場をたっぷり練習しています。また、今回も一人ずつ「ミニ・フォニックス・レッスン」を実施しました。講師が個別にお子さんの状況を確認し、宿題の進み具合や理解度を丁寧にチェックしています。

This lesson added to our growing vocabulary of things for sale, and put the focus on the customer initiating the interaction by choosing a product and asking “How much is this sandwich?” Eagles also learned how to combine “how” with various adjectives like “How fresh is this watermelon?” or “How soft is this towel?”
We brought together all of the shopping language we’ve learned so far for a grand game of Gnopoloy, our own version of the popular buying and selling board game, Monopoly. Students had lots of chances to practice asking about prices and being the buyer and the seller in this exciting game.

今回のレッスンでは、売り物の名前（語彙）をさらに増やし、お客さんのほうから「このサンドイッチはいくらですか？（How much is this sandwich?）」と店員さんに話しかける練習に重点を置きました。さらにEaglesクラスでは、「How」と形容詞を組み合わせて、「このスイカはどれくらい新鮮ですか？（How fresh is this watermelon?）」や「このタオルはどれくらい柔らかいですか？（How soft is this towel?）」といった、より詳しい情報を尋ねる表現も学びました。そして、これまでに学んだお買い物の英語を総動員して、当校オリジナルのボードゲーム「グノポリー（Gnopoloy）」に挑戦しました！人気の「モノポリー」をアレンジしたこのゲームを通じて、値段を尋ねたり、買い手や売り手になりきったりと、ワクワクする雰囲気の中で実践的な練習をたっぷり楽しみました。

Eagles had two additional grammar points to learn in this lesson. First, we practiced the plural forms of “this” and “that” by asking “What are these?” and “What are those?” They had to be careful to change the verb form from “is” to “are” when talking about plurals.
We also learned several irregular plurals like “mouse/mice” and “person/people”, including some that stay the same, like “sheep/sheep”. When combining all of it together, then singulars and plurals and irregular forms, it was a bit tricky, but with practice the Eagles were able to communicate with correct questions and answers in our game.

今週のレッスンでは、さらに2つの新しい文法ポイントに挑戦しました！まず1つ目は、「これ（あれ）」の複数形です。「What are these?（これらは何ですか？）」や「What are those?（あれらは何ですか？）」という質問の仕方を練習しました。単数形のときの「is」から、複数形の「are」へと動詞の形をしっかりと変化させる必要があり、みんな意識しながら慎重に取り組んでいました。2つ目は、「不規則に変化する複数形」の学習です。「mouse ➔ mice（ネズミ）」や「person ➔ people（人）」のように形が変わるものや、「sheep ➔ sheep（羊）」のように単数でも複数でも形が変わらない特別な単語をいくつか学びました。単数形、通常の複数形、そしてこの不規則変化のルールがすべて混ざると、頭の切り替えが少し難しく感じられます。それでもゲームを通して繰り返し練習するうちに、正しい質問と答え方で上手にコミュニケーションが取れるようになっていました！

This week the main focus for Eagles was on using different pronouns to talk about other people’s likes and dislikes. We tried guessing whether our teachers and classmates liked or disliked various foods by saying “She likes mushrooms” or “He doesn’t like shrimp.”
We also continued learning more irregular plurals, with items like “bread” and “shrimp” that don’t add an ‘s’ or change at all.

今週のレッスンの大きなテーマは、さまざまな代名詞（HeやSheなど）を使って「他の人の好き・嫌い」について話すことでした！「She likes mushrooms.（彼女はマッシュルームが好きです）」や「He doesn’t like shrimp.（彼はエビが苦手です）」といったフレーズを使いながら、先生やクラスメイトが色々な食べ物を好きか嫌いかを予想して当てるゲームに挑戦しました。また、先週に引き続き「不規則に変化する複数形」の学習も行っています。今回は「bread（パン）」や「shrimp（エビ）」など、最後に「s」を付けたり形を変えたりしない（単数と複数が同じ）単語を新しく学びました。

As usual, lesson 7 was our review lesson. We went back over all the vocabulary and phrases that we learned in the project. The students have learned a lot of useful phrases for shopping, from asking and answering what things are and how much they cost to deciding and communicating what they’d like to buy.
For phonics this week we practiced reading longer passages. Our yellow and orange students focused on the “-et” sound and read a full paragraph, “My Pet”, as a group. Our purple and blue phonics learners focused primarily on magic ‘e’ words while reading a multi-page story titled “Mike and the Whale”.
We also did our final round of ondoku checks this week, and many students were able to pass the step they were aiming for. Keep up the practice at home!

今週のレッスン7は、恒例の「復習レッスン」でした！これまでのプロジェクトで学んだ単語やフレーズを、みんなで一通りおさらいしています。子どもたちは、品物が何かを尋ねる表現、値段のやり取り、そして「これに決めた！」と自分の買いたいものを伝える表現まで、お買い物に役立つ便利なフレーズをたくさん身につけることができました。フォニックスのパートでは、今週はいつもより長めの文章を読む練習にチャレンジしています。イエロー・オレンジクラスの生徒さん： 「-et」の音に注目しながら、「My Pet（わたしのペット）」という1段落の文章をみんなで一緒に読みました。パープル・ブルークラスの生徒さん： マジック「e」のつく単語を中心に学びながら、「Mike and the Whale（マイクとクジラ）」という数ページにわたるストーリーの音読に挑戦しました。また、今週は「音読チェック（ondoku checks）」の最終回でもありました。多くの生徒さんが、自分で目標にしていたステップを見事クリアしています！ぜひご家庭でも、この調子で練習を続けてみてくださいね。

This was the final lesson of our “Let’s go Shopping” project, so we spent some time reviewing and playing some games, and then prepared for our project display. Thank you to the parents who joined us for the project displays. We hope you enjoyed seeing some of the skills and language your children have learned to help them go shopping in English!

今週は「Let’s go Shopping（お買い物へ行こう）」プロジェクトの最終レッスンでした！前半はこれまでの復習を兼ねてゲームを行い、後半は「レッスン参観」の準備に取り組みました。レッスン参観にご参加いただいた保護者のみなさま、お忙しい中お越しいただき本当にありがとうございました。子どもたちが英語でお買い物をするために身につけた、たくさんのスキルや表現をご覧いただき、楽しんでいただけていましたら幸いです！

Special Lesson 1：This week was special lesson, and our theme was summer!

This week was special lesson, and our theme was summer! We asked some questions like “Do you like summer?”, “What do you like to eat in the summer?”, “Where do you like to go in the summer?” and more.
We learned the names of some items you might take with you on a trip to the beach or a summer trip, and practice the phrase “I need sunscreen.”
Then we played some fun, active, summer themed games like beach volleyball and a fishing-themed memory game.
Finally students made their own summer bucket list. They thought about what they might like to do this summer, and wrote out some sentences.

今週はスペシャルレッスン！テーマは「夏（サマー）」でした！レッスンでは、「夏は好き？」「夏には何を食べたい？」「夏はどこに行きたい？」など、夏に関するさまざまな質問に英語で答える練習をしました。また、海水浴や夏の旅行に持っていくアイテムの名前を学び、「I need sunscreen.（日焼け止めが必要です）」といった、お出かけのときに役立つフレーズを練習しています。その後は、ビーチバレーや、魚釣りをテーマにしたメモリーゲーム（神経衰弱）など、体を動かす夏らしいゲームで大盛り上がり！最後に、子どもたち一人ひとりがオリジナルの「サマーバケットリスト（この夏やりたいことリスト）」を作りました。今年の夏にやってみたいことをそれぞれ自由に想像しながら、英語の文章でしっかりと書き上げました！
