Project 1 “After talk”

Project 1 this year is a visit to the farm! We learn all about animals and what they say, do, eat and more! We explore the sights and make our own farm book with our favorite farm animals.

今年のプロジェクト第1弾は「牧場へ行こう！」がテーマです。牧場の動物たちについて、鳴き声や動き、何を食べるのかなど、たくさんのことを学んでいきます。牧場の風景をのぞいてみたり、お気に入りの動物を集めた自分だけの「牧場ブック」を作ったりする予定です。お子さんが動物たちに親しみながら、楽しく英語に触れられる内容になっています。

This lesson we got an introduction to all the animals on the farm. With each new animal we discovered, students answered the question “What’s this?” by saying “It’s a horse!” After practicing with several active games, we got a start on our farm books by adding our favorite animals to the scene.
While we’ll hold on to these until the end of the project when our books are finished, when you get to see it, make sure to ask about the animals at home using the question “What’s this?”

今回のレッスンでは、牧場にいるいろいろな動物たちを紹介しました。新しい動物を見つけるたびに、“What’s this?”（これはなあに？）という質問に対して、“It’s a horse!”（ウマだよ！）と元気に答える練習をしました。体を動かすゲームでたっぷり練習した後は、自分だけの「牧場ブック」作りもスタート！お気に入りの動物たちをページに描き加えました。このブックは完成するまでスクールでお預かりしますが、おうちに持ち帰った際には、ぜひ “What’s this?” と聞いてみてください。お子さんがどんな動物を英語で教えてくれるか、楽しみにしていてくださいね。

In this lesson we learned the sounds that the different farm animals make in English. Some are similar to the Japanese sounds, and some are quite different, so that was interesting for the kids. They had a lot of fun correcting the teachers when they got the sounds wrong. “A sheep says quack, right?” “Noooo! A sheep says baa!” We added speech bubbles to the animals in our farm books, so make sure to try asking your child, “What’s this?” followed by “What does a ○○ say?”

今回のレッスンでは、牧場の動物たちの「鳴き声」を英語でどう言うかを学びました。日本語の鳴き声に似ているものもあれば、全く違うものもあり、子どもたちはその違いに興味津々！講師がわざと鳴き声を間違えると、「A sheep says quack, right?（ヒツジはガーガー鳴くんだよね？）」、「Noooo! A sheep says baa!（違うよー！メェーだよ！）」と、楽しそうに直してくれました。「牧場ブック」の動物たちには、鳴き声の吹き出しも書き加えました。ぜひ、おうちでも、“What’s this?”（これは何？）に続けて、“What does a ○○ say?”（○○は何て鳴くかな？）と聞いてみてください。

In this lesson we took a tour of the farm. We practiced asking “What do you see?” and students were able to answer not only with animals, but various landmarks and features you’d find on the farm like a barn, a pond or a hill.
Each student got to make their own farm landscape by adding various features, and then tell us about what you can see on their farm.
We also got in some writing practice during phonics time. Each student got an appropriate challenge for them depending on how far along they are in their phonics journey.

今回のレッスンでは、牧場の中を探検しました！「何が見える？（What do you see?）」と尋ねる練習をしながら、動物だけでなく、納屋（barn）や池（pond）、丘（hill）など、牧場ならではの景色や建物についても学びました。生徒たちはそれぞれ、いろいろなパーツを組み合わせて自分だけの牧場の風景を作り、そこに何が見えるかを英語で紹介してくれました。また、フォニックスの時間には「書く」練習にも取り組みました。一人ひとりの進度に合わせて、今のレベルにぴったりの課題にチャレンジしています。

After making our farm full of animals, this week it was time to add ourselves into the picture! We practiced feelings and answering when someone asks “How are you?” In our farm books, students drew in themselves and decided how they were feeling.
We also looked at how the animals on the farm were feeling. From hungry sheep to happy cows, there were lots of cute and funny animals to enjoy.

牧場にたくさんの動物たちが揃ったところで、今週は自分自身をその風景の中に描き加えました！今回は「気持ち（感情）」の表現と、“How are you?”（元気かな？／調子はどう？）と聞かれた時の答え方を練習しました。「牧場ブック」の中に自分の姿を描き、その時の自分がどんな気持ちかも決めてもらいました。また、牧場の動物たちがどんな気分でいるかについても観察しました。お腹を空かせたヒツジさんや、とっても幸せそうな牛さんなど、可愛くて面白い動物たちがいっぱいで、みんなで楽しく学びました。

This week on the farm, we spent some time in the garden! We learned the names of some fruits and vegetables and practiced the plurals for them. Some of them, especially the ones ending in “es” like “peaches” and “oranges” were a bit tricky to remember and say, but after some practice they got much better!
We wanted to focus on students asking the question “Do you like strawberries?” so we played games where they asked the teachers whether they liked various foods. We added another page to our farm book about our garden. Students chose the fruits and vegetables that they like and added them to their own gardens.

今週の「牧場」のレッスンでは、みんなでお庭（菜園）へ出かけました！色々な果物や野菜の名前を学び、それらを複数形にする練習をしています。特に「peaches（桃）」や「oranges（オレンジ）」のように、語尾に「es」がつく単語は、覚えるのも発音するのも少し難しそうでしたが、繰り返し練習するうちにどんどん上手になっていきました！また、今回は生徒自身から「Do you like strawberries?（いちごは好きですか？）」と質問することにフォーカスしました。先生たちに色々な食べ物の好みを尋ねるゲームを行い、積極的に質問する練習をしています。最後に、みんなで作っている「牧場ブック」に、お庭のページを新しく追加しました。子どもたちは自分の好きな果物や野菜を選んで、自分だけの素敵なお庭を完成させていました！

This week we checked out what all the animals are doing on the farm! Some were running and jumping, while others were eating or sleeping. We asked them the question “What’s it doing?” and the students had to decide what the animals were doing and answer “It’s playing!” or “It’s walking.”
Students made their own cameras and then went around he farm finding animals in action to take pictures of.

今週は、牧場にいる動物たちが何をしているのか、みんなで観察しに行きました！走ったりジャンプしたりしている動物もいれば、ご飯を食べたり眠ったりしている動物もいます。レッスンでは、動物たちに向かって「What’s it doing?（何をしているのかな？）」と問いかけ、その様子を見た子どもたちが「It’s playing!（遊んでいるよ！）」や「It’s walking.（歩いているよ）」と英語で答える練習をしました。さらに、子どもたちは手作りのマイカメラを工作！そのカメラを持って農場をまわり、元気に動いている動物たちを見つけては、楽しそうにパシャパシャと写真を撮る（見立てる）ゲームを楽しみました。

Lesson 7：As the project is nearly at its end,

As the project is nearly at its end, this week was a review of all of the vocabulary and phrases we’ve learned so far. We know the names of animals and what sounds they make, and can say what they’re doing and even how they might be feeling. We know fruits and vegetables and can ask our friends if they like them. We can also say what landmarks we see around the farm like “a barn” or “a pond”.
Students chose an animal they liked and added a page to their farm book about what it’s doing.

プロジェクトもいよいよ終盤に近づき、今週はこれまでに学んだ単語やフレーズをすべておさらいする総復習を行いました！子どもたちは、動物の名前やその鳴き声だけでなく、動物たちが「何をしているか」、さらには「どんな気持ち（気分）でいるか」まで英語で言えるようになっています。また、果物や野菜の名前を使って、お友達に「〜は好き？」と尋ねることもできます。さらに、「barn（納屋）」や「pond（池）」など、牧場のまわりにある目印（建物や自然）を見つけて伝える表現も身につけました。レッスン後半には、お気に入りの動物を1頭選び、その動物が何をしているところかを自分で考えて、手作りの「牧場ブック」に新しいページとして書き加えました！

Lesson 8：This was the final lesson of our first project of the year,

This was the final lesson of our first project of the year, “On the Farm”. We reviewed all of our words and phrases again with some fun games, and then students made a cute finger puppet of their favorite farm animal. They can say “It’s a pig. A pig says ‘oink’!” while playing with it.
We also went through our farm books, and practiced some of the pages. The students really enjoyed seeing all their hard work put together into a fun memory of their time on the farm. They’re taking it home with them now, so please have a look through it together and see if they can tell you about some of what they saw on the farm.

今週は、今年度最初のプロジェクト「On the Farm」の最終レッスンでした！これまでに学んだ単語やフレーズを楽しいゲームでもう一度おさらいした後、子どもたちはお気に入りの牧場の動物の、可愛い「指人形（フィンガーパペット）」を作りました。指人形で遊びながら、「It’s a pig. A pig says ‘oink’!（これはブタさんだよ。ブタさんはブーブーって鳴くんだよ！）」とお話しすることができます。また、これまで作ってきた「牧場ブック」をみんなで読み返し、いくつかのページを音読する練習もしました。子どもたちは、自分のこれまでの頑張りが一冊の素敵な思い出として形になったのを見て、とても嬉しそうにしていました。本日、この「牧場ブック」をお家に持ち帰っています。ぜひご家族で一緒にページをめくりながら、「牧場でどんなものを見たのかな？」とお子さまにお話を聞いてみてくださいね！

　　　　

Special Lesson 1：For our special lesson this week, we went on a camping trip!

For our special lesson this week, we went on a camping trip! We did some review of the last project as we rode the bus past some farms on our way to the campgrounds. Once we got there, there was plenty to do. We built a campfire, went bug hunting and even got chased by a bear! The students got to make their own bug, and we got in a bit of practice with numbers and counting when adding the legs.

今週はスペシャルレッスン！みんなで「キャンプ旅行」に出かけました！キャンプ場へ向かうバスの中では、窓の外に見える牧場を眺めながら、前回のプロジェクトのおさらいをしています。キャンプ場に到着してからは、楽しいアクティビティが目白押し！みんなでキャンプファイヤーを作ったり、虫捕りに出かけたり、さらにはクマに追いかけられるスリリングな一幕もありました！レッスン後半には、子どもたち一人ひとりがオリジナルの「虫」を工作しました。虫に足を何本かつける作業を通して、数字や数を数える（カウントする）英語の練習もバッチリ行っています。
