Lesson 1：Welcome to lesson 1 of our new project, My Superhero!

Welcome to lesson 1 of our new project, My Superhero! In this project, students are going to design their own superhero. This week we started with the costume. We practiced different clothing paired with colors to help get used to pairing an adjective with a noun. This also helped us continue to practice singlulars and plurals, which we started learning about last project, as well as describing what other people are wearing using “she/he’s wearing…”
After a some games, including one where students got a chance to describe what some of their classmates were wearing, we began designing our own heroes costumes, and did some writing to explain what they’re wearing.”
新プロジェクト「マイ・スーパーヒーロー」の第1回目のレッスンへようこそ！このプロジェクトでは、子どもたち自身がオリジナルのスーパーヒーローをデザインしていきます。今週は、まず「コスチューム（衣装）」の決定からスタートしました。レッスンでは、色の名前といろいろな服の名前を組み合わせて言う練習をしました。これは「形容詞＋名詞」の組み合わせ（例：青いシャツ、など）に慣れるための練習です。あわせて、前のプロジェクトから学び始めた「単数形と複数形（1つのときと、2つ以上のときの言葉の違い）」の復習や、お友だちを指さして “She/He’s wearing…”（彼女／彼は〜を着ているよ）と、他人が着ているものを説明する練習にも取り組みました。いくつかのゲーム（クラスメイトが何を着ているかを英語で説明し合うゲームなど）で盛り上がったあと、いよいよ自分だけのヒーローのコスチュームのデザインを開始しました！最後は、そのヒーローが何を着ているかを説明する英語の「ライティング」にも挑戦しました。

Lesson 2：This lesson was all about the amazing things we and our superheroes can do!

This lesson was all about the amazing things we and our superheroes can do! We practiced abilities that, when taken to the exteme could be super powers, but some are also things that students might actually be able to do, like “jump high” or “see far”. Our phrase this week was “I can run fast!” and for our superheroes we said “She can fly!” or “He can read minds!” We put the students through a series of challenges to see what they could do, and then they decided what powers their superhero has, and did some writing and drawing.
We also did individual mini phonics lessons with some students, where teachers got the opportunity to check in with students one on one to see how they’re doing with their phonics learning.

今週のレッスンは、私たちやスーパーヒーローができる「すごいこと（能力）」がテーマでした！今回は、限界まで極めればスーパーパワー（超能力）になるような能力を練習しました。その中には、“jump high”（高くジャンプする）や “see far”（遠くまで見る）のように、子どもたちが実際にできるかもしれない身近な動きも含まれています。今週のキーフレーズは、自分自身のことなら “I can run fast!”（私は速く走れるよ！）、スーパーヒーローのことなら “She can fly!”（彼女は空を飛べるよ！）や “He can read minds!”（彼は心が読めるんだ！）です。子どもたちは、自分にどんなことができるかを試すいくつかの「チャレンジゲーム」に挑戦したあと、自分のヒーローがどんな超能力を持っているかを決めて、絵を描いたり文字を書いたりしました。また、今回は一部の生徒を対象に、個別の「ミニ・フォニックスレッスン」も行いました。先生と1対1でじっくり向き合い、それぞれのフォニックスの学習がどこまで身についているかを丁寧に確認する、とても良い機会となりました。

Lesson 3：Superheroes need to eat super healthy to stay strong!

Superheroes need to eat super healthy to stay strong! This week’s lesson what about what healthy foods we and our heroes like to eat. Students used the phrases “She likes to eat broccoli.” and “He likes to eat berries.” to make sure all of Alex and Zoe’s favorite snacks got to the right character. For project work, they decided what foods their heroes like to eat, and continued to practice writing, along with some lovely drawings!
We did reading practice in phonics this week. Our yellow and orange phonics students did activity called “Growing Sentences” where we build up to reading a full sentence by adding on one word with each reading. Our purple and blue phonics students read a longer, more challenging storybook “Are You My Mother?”

レッスンでは、キャラクターの「アレックス」と「ゾーイ」のお気に入りのスナックを正しい持ち主のところへ届けるために、“She likes to eat broccoli.”（彼女はブロッコリーを食べるのが好きだよ）や “He likes to eat berries.”（彼はベリーを食べるのが好きだよ）というフレーズを使う練習をしました。プロジェクトの制作活動では、自分のヒーローの好物を決めて、とっても上手な絵と一緒に、英語で書く練習も続けて頑張りました！フォニックス（発音と文字）の時間には、英語を「読む」練習に取り組みました。イエロークラスとオレンジクラスの子どもたちは「文章を育てよう（Growing Sentences）」というアクティビティに挑戦し、言葉を1語ずつ付け足しながら、最終的に1本の長い文章を読めるようにステップアップしていきました。パープルクラスとブルークラスの子どもたちは、少し長くて読み応えのある『Are You My Mother?（ぼくのおかあさんどこ？）』という絵本の音読にチャレンジしました。

Lesson 4：Superheroes can’t be super all the time.

Superheroes can’t be super all the time. Sometimes they need to relax with their favorite hobbies. This week we practiced saying what we like to do, as well as what our superheroes like to do with their free time. We played “Forehead Flash”, a memory and quick thinking game that’s always a hit. Then students added a sheet about their heroes favorite activities to their project work.
We also did our first round of ondoku checks for this project today. A lot of students were able to pass the step that they were aiming for this time around. Keep up the practice at home!

スーパーヒーローだって、いつでも完璧（スーパー）でいられるわけではありません。ときには、お気に入りの趣味を楽しんでリラックスすることも大切です！今週は、自分自身が「何をするのが好きか」に加えて、自分のスーパーヒーローが自由な時間に「何をするのが好きか」を英語で言う練習をしました。レッスンでは、いつも子どもたちに大人気の、記憶力と瞬発力を競うゲーム「フォアヘッド・フラッシュ（おでこカード当てゲーム）」で大盛り上がりしました。そのあと、ヒーローのお気に入りの活動についてのワークシートを完成させて、プロジェクトの作品集に付け足しました。また、今日はこのプロジェクトが始まってから初めての「音読チェック」を行いました。多くの子どもたちが、今回目標にしていたステップ（見極め）に見事合格することができました！ぜひおうちでも、この調子で練習を続けてみてくださいね！

Lesson 5：This week we explored our heroes’ personalities.

This week we explored our heroes’ personalities. We were able to make sentences to describe ourselves and our heroes like “I am kind.” and “She is hard-working.” We played two very popular games this week, Spot It!, which is all about speed, and Ball Toss Bingo, which tests dexterity and strategy. For our project work, we made Venn diagrams comparing our heroes to ourselves, noting the ways we are similar and different.
We also did some phonics checks to see who might be ready to move up soon, and who needs a bit more practice.

今週のレッスンでは、自分たちの「ヒーロー」の性格について探究しました！「I am kind.（私は優しいです）」や「She is hard-working.（彼女は努力家です）」のように、自分自身や自分のヒーローがどんな人かを説明する文章を作る練習をしました。今週は、子どもたちに大人気のゲームを2つ行いました。1つはスピードが勝負の「Spot It!（スポット・イット）」、もう1つは器用さと戦略が試される「Ball Toss Bingo（ボールトス・ビンゴ）」です。みんな大盛り上がりで楽しんでいました！プロジェクト活動では、自分とヒーローを比較する「ベン図（Venn diagrams）」を作りました。自分とヒーローの「似ているところ」や「違うところ」を書き出し、客観的に比べる作業に挑戦しています。また、今回はフォニックスの習得度チェックも実施しました。もうすぐ次のステップへ進めそうな子や、もう少し練習が必要な子など、それぞれの現在の習得状況を確認しています。

Lesson 6：Some superheroes just rely on their super powers,

Some superheroes just rely on their super powers, but others have gadgets and gear to help them out! This lesson we decided what tools our hero has with them when they go to fight evil. The words we learned are all items that heroes might have a super version of, but also things that you might actually have at home. Once each hero’s super gadget was decided, we did some crafts so students could actually make them!
Our phonics activities this week, Letter Drawers and Bananagrams, both focus on combining letters to make words.

スーパーヒーローの中には、自分の超能力（スーパーパワー）だけに頼るヒーローもいれば、便利なガジェット（道具）や装備を使って戦うヒーローもいます！今回のレッスンでは、私たちのヒーローが悪と戦いに行くときにどんな道具を持っていくかを決めました。今回学んだ単語は、ヒーローが持っているような「スーパーメカ」の要素もありつつ、実はお家にも実際にあるような身近なアイテムばかりです。それぞれのヒーローのスーパーガジェットが決まったら、今度は工作の時間です！子どもたちが実際にその道具を形にできるよう、クラフト活動を楽しみました。今週のフォニックス（発音・文字学習）では、「Letter Drawers（レター・ドロワーズ）」と「Bananagrams（バナナグラム）」という2つのアクティビティを行いました。どちらも、バラバラの文字を組み合わせて、一つの単語を作ることに焦点を当てたゲームです。

Special Lesson 2：The theme for our special lesson this week was “Think outside of the box,”

The theme for our special lesson this week was “Think outside of the box,” so it was all about being creative! We used the book “Not a Box” as inspiration to get us thinking, and did a bunch of creative thinking activities. We turned some simple shapes like squares, circles and lines into a whole variety of interesting things. We looked at abstract ink blot paintings and tried to imagine what they might look like, and then we made our own! Have a look and see what you think they look like. We also played a cooperative drawing game where teammates take turns adding to a drawing and then hope it’s clear enough to be guessed.

今週のスペシャルレッスンのテーマは「Think outside of the box（型にはまらない自由な発想をしよう！）」。つまり、クリエイティブ（創造的）になることが主役の一週間でした！子どもたちの思考を刺激するために、絵本『Not a Box（邦題：きみのはこじゃない）』からインスピレーションをもらい、さまざまなクリエイティブ思考のアクティビティに挑戦しました。四角や丸、線といったシンプルな図形を、子どもたちの手でまったく新しい、多種多様で面白いものへと変身させました。また、抽象的なインクの染みの絵（インクブロット）を見て「何に見えるか」を想像し、最後には自分たちだけのインク染みアートを作りました！ぜひお家で作品をご覧になって、何に見えるかお子様と一緒に考えてみてくださいね。さらに、チームメイトが順番に描き足していき、それが何を描いたものか当ててもらう「協力お絵描きゲーム」も行いました。みんな自分の意図が伝わるよう、ハラハラドキドキしながら楽しんでいました！

Lesson 7：Lesson 7 was, as always, our review lesson,

Lesson 7 was, as always, our review lesson, so we went through all the vocabulary and phrases we’ve learned in this project. During the project we’ve learned many ways to talk about ourselves and other people by focusing on creating our own unique superheroes. Our game this week was based on Jeopardy, a popular American quiz show.
We also did our second round of ondoku checks. Well done to everyone who’s been practicing and was able to pass the step they were aiming for!

レッスン7は、いつものように復習のレッスンでした！このプロジェクトで学んだすべての語彙やフレーズをしっかりとおさらいしました。今回のプロジェクトでは、自分だけのユニークなスーパーヒーロー作りに焦点を当てながら、自分自身や他の人について表現するさまざまな方法を学んできました。今週挑戦したゲームは、アメリカで大人気のクイズ番組をベースにした「Jeopardy（ジェパディ）」です。みんなこれまでの学習を思い出しながら、白熱したクイズバトルを楽しみました！また、今回は2回目の「音読チェック（ondoku checks）」も実施しました。お家などでコツコツ練習を重ね、自分が目標にしていたステップ（級や段階）に見事合格できた皆さん、本当によく頑張りました！（Well done!）

Lesson 8：This was the final lesson of our “My Superhero” project,

This was the final lesson of our “My Superhero” project, so we spent some time reviewing and playing some games, and then prepared for our peer project display. Students got a chance to present the awesome superheroes they came up with to each other, and now they’ll take them home so you can have a look and ask your children about them at home!

今回で、楽しかった「マイ・スーパーヒーロー（My Superhero）」のプロジェクトもいよいよ最終回を迎えました！レッスンでは、これまでの復習を兼ねていくつかのゲームを楽しんだ後、クラスメイトとお互いの作品を見せ合う「プロジェクト発表会（peer project display）」の準備を行いました。発表会では、子どもたち一人ひとりが、自分で考えた最高にカッコいいスーパーヒーローをクラスのみんなに向けて堂々と発表することができました！これまでに作った素敵な作品はお家に持ち帰りますので、ぜひご家庭でじっくりとご覧になり、「どんなスーパーヒーローを作ったの？」とお子様にインタビューしてみてくださいね！
